Saturday Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m.: Movie Night with Clark Wilson

The San Diego International Organ Festival finale concert is on Saturday, August 31 and will feature organist Clark Wilson playing accompaniment to two silent film comedies.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. with music from the American Songbook, which Mr. Wilson will play until dusk has settled, at which point CHASING CHOO CHOOS (1927) will be screened. After an intermission, the concert will conclude with SHERLOCK, JR. (1924) starring Buster Keaton. The approximate ending time of the concert is 9:30 p.m.
At the concert, Spreckels Organ Society welcomes representatives of the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum, which is staging a Centennial Commemoration on November 16 of the moment in 1919 when John D. Spreckels drove the Golden Spike to complete the San Diego & Arizona Railway. CHASING CHOO CHOOS was filmed along that railway, so eagle-eyed spotters will get a good look at San Diego’s “back country” of the 1920s. Pay a visit to the Railway Museum display table at the concert to learn more about the “Impossible Railroad” and commemorative events coming up this fall.
