Reopening for Live Concerts

Sunday afternoon concerts began June 27.

Here’s more information about upcoming Live Concerts planned by the Spreckels Organ Society and Artistic Director Raúl Prieto Ramírez, who is San Diego’s Civic Organist.

When do live concerts start?                                                                    

Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. – concerts are now taking place.

Reopening Celebration Concert on SATURDAY, JULY 31 starting at 5:30 p.m. Entertainment for all audiences, starting with youngsters, then segue through folkloric dance and mariachi music to a showcase at 8:30 p.m. when the San Diego Master Chorale sings with the Spreckels Organ. After dark, a creative light show accompanies live rock music played by Raúl on the organ with a talented group of local musicians – guaranteeing that music lovers of all stripes will share this unique moment of reopening.

MONDAY NIGHTS – ORGAN CONCERT FESTIVAL SERIES – 33rd Season!

Monday nights at 7:30 p.m. – San Diego International Organ Festival – a 10-concert series from August 30 to October 25, plus a special finale: silent movie night on Saturday, October 30. Look for more information to be posted soon.

For live concerts, will there be rules to follow?

No special rules, simply respect others and follow general concert etiquette. The Pavilion is open space.

Will the attendees be invited inside the Pavilion after concerts?

Long-time audience members recall many a Sunday after the concert when the Pavilion stage and the interior space of the building were open for the public. These occasions will return, as volunteer staffing and scheduling conditions allow.

Will there still be things to watch online?

Yes! On June 27, Raúl produced a video for the American Guild of Organists’ annual national convention (taking place online). CLICK HERE FOR THE LINK. Dozens of video concerts from 2020 are in the archive and will be offered via YouTube (see BalboaParkConcerts.org for the latest). Future special occasions will be moments when new videos will be produced.

Where do we park? Is the Parking Tram running again?

All parking lots are open and the free green tram is running. For more information see BalboaPark.org.

Will there be weekday evening concerts by different bands? (i.e., Twilight in the Park)

The Twilight Series (Tues-Wed-Thurs at 6:30 p.m.) is organized by a volunteer committee convened by the City’s Department of Parks & Recreation. For information go to https://www.balboapark.org/twilight-concerts

Will there be a Halloween movie?

Yes! Saturday Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. organist Mark Herman will headline a Halloween-themed movie night.
